The Cheshire Plains and Peaks cycle challenge offers two routes, a 60 mile/100km and a more challenging route of 100 mile/160km.
The 60mile/100km cycle route follows calm country roads looping around Alderley Edge and the foothills of the Peak District before heading back to Warrington.
Although both of these distances prove demanding, the more advanced riders have the option to follow the 100 mile/160km route, through quiet country roads in a first climb up Alderley Edge, before heading into the more challenging Peak District, passing through Goyt Valley and past the Cat and Fiddle Inn before heading back towards Warrington.
Both of these events are set to take place on Sunday 22nd July 2012.
The Climbs
The first climb for both routes of the cycle challenge is up Alderley Edge. This is the only significant climb of the 60 mile route, but the 100 mile route then heads into the Peak District with a number of climbs through Rainow, from Chapel up to Sparrowpit, through the Goyt Valley, followed by the final climb over the Cat and Fiddle. There will be some improvements to the final leg this year.In total the 100 mile cycle challenge includes 1660 metres of climbing.
