The multi-disciplinary team at St. Rocco's Hospice includes a small team of chaplains from the main Christian denominations in Warrington.
Using their training, resources and faith backgrounds, our team is available to journey with patients and offer spiritual and religious care appropriate to an individual’s needs.
The chaplaincy team takes its lead from patients and respects that, while not everyone would describe themselves as having a faith, each person has their own belief system they call upon to help them cope.
St. Rocco’s is fortunate to have a non-denominational chapel and a prayer room. Both facilities offer patients, staff and relatives, somewhere to go to find stillness, peace and an opportunity to pray or reflect.
Ways in which the Chaplaincy Team may be able to help:
- Listening to patients and their relatives
- Discerning and assessing spiritual and religious needs
- Offering to help patients articulate their needs in order to live as fully as possible
- Offering to explore with patients ways of finding strength and inner peace
- Discussing questions and issues arising from illness
- Talking through a patient's hopes and fears for the present and the future
- Supporting a patient's faith (if they have one)
- Praying with patients if required
- Offering to be alongside a patient or a loved one at the time of death
- Helping a patient, relative or carer to plan a funeral, making it as personal as possible
- Liaising with local clergy and faith leaders
- Offering training to health professionals in the spirituality of palliative care

A Message From Our Chaplains:
"It is the aim of all who work at St. Rocco’s to help each patient find some peace and strength in the midst of coping with illness. Thankfully the medical profession is very skilled in helping ease our physical pain. But for most of us there is mental, emotional and spiritual pain, which no prescription can take away.
The chaplains are here for those times when you feel you want someone to talk to. We would be glad to listen and offer you all the support we can. We won’t preach at you, judge or criticise you; we won’t push religion at you; and we won’t overstay our welcome.
We are here to help in the spiritual care of all our patients. Whatever your beliefs, we are available to be alongside you and help you find your own unique way of coping with what is happening."
