“I found out I had cancer just after my 50th birthday it was such a shock as I felt well & it was only a routine mammogram that picked it up. The treatment was gruelling & afterwards I felt very down.

I started playing the St Rocco's Lottery as a way of saying thank you for their kindness that was shown to me after I had finished my treatment, St Rocco's offered a little treat of having a foot massage weekly, a small thing but it was good for me to meet other people who were recovering and talk to people who understood how I was feeling.

I have actually won a couple of times, each time £5 but still a treat to win. So, when I received the call to say I had won the £1000 prize I was stunned. Cancer has taught me life is short, I put the money towards a family holiday to Cyprus which was a really wonderful experience, the privilege of spending time with my loved ones, time at one point I thought I might not have.

I would advise anyone to play, it's a small amount to give with a great chance of winning.”

"When I first got the letter from St Rocco’s I said to my husband oh it's just one of those letters to say I've won five pounds, which I've never collected. However, as I was reading through the letter, I had to read it again and again I said to hubby, it's says I've won £1000, I thought must be a scam no idea what scam, but that was my first thought. I've never won anything like this and did not believe it still until the cheque had actually cleared in the bank.

Omg I was absolutely over the moon with the win, and still smile every time I think about it now. I shared the news with my family and everyone was really happy for me as we have had a few years of stress with different life things and this was the boost we needed. This is going towards a cruise down the fjords next year, we had already planned as a family to celebrate our daughters 30th birthday, also some treats here and there.

I have always done the lottery for St Rocco’s for over 10 years, never thinking I would win big as I have always thought it is good to contribute in any way, even a small amount. I would encourage everyone to do this if they can, as a small amount each adds up to a lot of funds going to a very worthy cause in our area."

"I was very shocked to see the winning £1000 cheque. I have been playing for 20 years and had only every won the odd £5 cheque. I thought it would be the same when the £1000 winner came through the post. It was during the pandemic, so we had to wait to cash it but spent it on a lovely holiday to Grasmere in the lake district. It was wonderful to win but I don't play to win, I play to support the hospice and have done for over 20 years now!"
