They were travelling around Warrington collecting in trees from members of the Warrington community who had signed up to this year’s St. Rocco’s tree collection.

Who would have thought that discarded Christmas trees could make such a difference to patient care at St. Rocco’s? This is definitely the case though, with this year’s event raising a record-breaking £27,000, with a record-breaking 2,100 trees being collected.

None of this could have been achieved without the generosity of the organisations and volunteers involved.

Before Christmas there were over 60 organisations selling Christmas trees who supported us by giving out information about how to sign up for our tree collection. This meant that by Christmas Day around 800 people had already booked in their tree.

There were more organisations than ever involved in the on the day operation and we would like to say a big thank you to BT Skips, Ecoshred, Jewson, Nomenca, Orangeries of Cheshire, SP Energy, Today, Torus, Trinity Facilities Management, Urban Building Projects, VPS and Warrington Borough Council for their amazing support.

We would also like to say a heart-felt thank you to everyone who was prepared to jump out of bed very early on such a frosty, cold Saturday morning and give up their time for free to bring in the trees.

The Christmas trees have been sent off to White Moss for recycling so, as well as helping patients living with a terminal illness and their families, those who sign up are also helping the environment.
