World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the world participate annually in celebrations.

Kids Planet Warrington wanted to celebrate the day by getting some of their younger children to write a letter or draw a picture for the patients at St. Rocco’s as Katie Lee, the Kids Planet Warrington manager explained. “We have always been a supporter of St. Rocco’s, so this seemed a great way to celebrate the day and hopefully give a little joy to some of the patients in the Hospice.”

Patient cheer

So, on Friday 8th October, a group of children, and their carers visited the Hospice to hand over their artwork and letters. Russ Fry, Marketing & communications manager at St. Rocco’s said, “It was great to welcome the children to St. Rocco’s and receive their artwork. Although, they could only go into our reception area they helped to brighten the atmosphere across the entire Hospice.

“I know that their paintings and letters will also help to cheer our patients as well and would like to thank the children, as well as Katie and her staff for organising the day. We depend on the support of the people of Warrington to enable us to provide our care and events like this help to raise morale in these trying times.”
