Hi,

My name is Lynda and I’m a nurse here at St. Rocco’s, working in our Vitality Centre.

I’d like to tell you a little about myself, the work that my team and I do, and how your support keeps our local hospice open.

I’ve had the privilege of working as a nurse for over 50 years, 19 of those have been at St. Rocco’s. Over the years I’ve worked with palliative patients in all kinds of settings, but nothing compares to the feeling of love, care and compassion that’s comes from St. Rocco’s Hospice.

Anybody who has worked or volunteered at the hospice will tell you that it is like one big family and that is how we like to treat our patients. Often, they are here with us at a very scary or worrying time so its our duty to comfort them and their loved ones.

It’s not always tears though, working in the Vitality Centre I get to see our day patients enjoy their time at the hospice. From craft groups to relaxation therapies, our care doesn’t just start at end-of-life, we help ensure that everybody facing a life-limiting illness is still able to live well.

Working at St. Rocco’s is the most rewarding job I could have asked for in my career as a nurse. It’s difficult and heartbreaking at times of course but knowing that I have been there for our patients makes it all worthwhile.
