This month we sat down with Mandy, who is a healthcare assistant in our Vitality Centre.

Mandy may be a familiar face to a lot of our visitors at the hospice as she has worked with us for 22 years, many of which were spent working alongside her mum, Mary.

“My mum was a big part in me choosing to work in palliative care. I saw the satisfaction she got from caring for people and it was the motivation I needed to join her and help deliver that support myself”

Being a healthcare assistant, Mandy’s role within the hospice is varied and very busy but she says it’s our patients that keep her moving forward. “When our patients come into the Vitality Centre its my job to help them first and foremost. I have to listen to their needs and, if I can, alleviate their stress, pain or anxiety”

Happy memories

Working at St. Rocco’s does come with its challenges, but Mandy says that her time here has been filled with happy memories, “the opening of the Vitality Centre in 2009 is a particular highlight as it helped give the team with everything that we needed to keep providing our care. It was even more special as the money needed to build the centre was partly fundraised through the local community which just shows the immense support we receive from the people of Warrington”
