Cycling the height of Mount Everest to raise money in memory of Betty Edwards

We come across some really amazing fundraising activities at St. Rocco’s and where possible we always like to publicise the efforts of those involved.

One such recent activity was organised by Simon Cartledge. On the 12th of June this year Simon and the rest of his team cycled the height of Mount Everest in memory of his friend Elizabeth “Betty” Edwards. Simon had worked alongside Betty at Wythenshawe's Acute Intensive Care Unit, where she was a fantastic member of the team and is greatly missed.

Celebrate with a cake

Setting out initially to raise £1,000 for St. Rocco’s, where Betty was cared for, they eventually raised an amazing £2265. The team cycled from Gradbach to Flash (the highest village in Britain) in Staffordshire a total of 49 times to achieve this – a total of 8849m.

To celebrate Betty and the event, Anna who worked with Betty baked a fantastic cake for the challenge.

Judging by the pictures, it looks like they had great weather for the day. A big thank you goes out from everyone here at St. Rocco’s to Simon and his team as well as everyone that sponsored them and help organise the day.
