Graham’s Colour Run Story

‘The event was totally joyous and a huge step in the healing process’

Graham’s wife was cared for at the end of her life in St Rocco’s Hospice.  He spoke to us about the care the family received and why they decided to take part in the last Colour Run event.

The staff at St Rocco’s took such great care of my wife, and my family, in the final days of her life, that we felt we wanted to do something to repay their kindness and compassion.

The Colour Run was scheduled for the following weekend, and although the grief was still very raw, the whole family (including a nine-month-old and two very expectant mums!) agreed they wanted to take part.

A Just Giving page was hastily set up, and kids started decorating t-shirts for the occasion!

The event itself was totally joyous, which was unexpected, given the circumstances, and a huge step in the healing process for the whole family. And donations of over £4,000 were raised to support the amazing work of St Rocco’s.

So, it’s a huge thank you to the organizers of this fabulous, fun filled event.  My family and I will definitely be back for the next one! It means a great deal to us all.

And true to his word, Graham will be back at the Colour Run event this year as a volunteer and we are honoured that he will be supporting the hospice again.

Without volunteers and supporters like Graham, we wouldn’t be able to run these events and raise much needed funds for patient care at the hospice.

If you want to volunteer but are limited on time, becoming an event’s volunteer may be perfect for you.  By donating a few hours even just once a year, it means we can host bigger and better events like our Colour Run 2024!
