Would you like to be a part of St. Rocco’s Hospice's fifth Starlight Ladies Walk in our 25th Anniversary year?
We need 200 volunteers to help us stage this incredible event; could you offer some time?

We need men and women to:
Help at Victoria Park in the setting-up process from noon on Friday 18th June
Help late evening until the early hours with getting the walk started and then setting up for the walkers’ return (9pm-4am)
Line the route from 11.30pm until 5 am
Help at the end to clear the park from 5 am-9am
Helping set up at the park ...
The event is planned for many months but on the day there’s a lot to do including:
- Putting up tents
- Unloading vans from the Hospice
- Putting out cones / tape etc.
- Setting up the registration area
- Erecting the mileage signs on the route
- and much, much more
Helping at the park during the event...
There are jobs to be done to prepare for the walkers return:
- Issuing water
- Serving refreshments
- Preparing the ‘finish’ (medals/gifts etc.)
- Moving things around
- Welcoming the walkers
Marshalling on the route...
Volunteers work in pairs and are allotted a place along the route as part of a section supervised by a senior marshal. Their role is to keep the ladies going, both in the right direction and ‘in spirits’, by offering encouragement and making sure that they are safe.
The whole event is supported by the Police, St. John’s Ambulance, Raynet and Hospice staff in support vehicles.
Briefing sessions are held for all new marshals so they know what to do on the night and reflective vests are issued.
Helping at the end
Everything that has been set up has to be cleared and returned to the Hospice by morning. After 24 hours, staff are very tired and some fresh help would be appreciated!
