Volunteer For Elephant In The Room
Our ‘memory elephants’ are wonderful keepsakes for those who have lost loved ones. Volunteers to sew the elephants are key to the project.
‘Memory Elephants’ are a special way of remembering someone who has died and are made using material from their favourite clothing which is provided by their loved ones in return for a donation towards patient care at St. Rocco’s.
It is a lovely way to remember someone and it can also encourage talk around ‘The Elephant in the Room’ – death, dying and grieving. Find out more about Elephant in the Room [link to IMO Elephant in the Room page .
Key Skills
- Ability to sew
- Ability to ready a pattern
St. Rocco’s will provide the necessary equipment and the pattern. Experience suggests that an elephant takes around 3 hours to make but the quality of the elephant is very important so we
We are hoping to use a room at St. Rocco’s where volunteers can meet up to make elephants. We are also considering if volunteers can make elephants at home if they have their own equipment.
