What to expect when visiting St. Rocco’s Hospice

For many, when they hear the word hospice, it is often met with the expectation of being a scary and daunting place, but that is not the case at St. Rocco’s. Our aim is to Make Every Day Count for those living with a palliative diagnosis. However, visiting a hospice can be intimidating, no matter your reason for visiting.

Upon entering the hospice, you will be greeted with a smile by our friendly Receptionist and Reception Volunteers. They are there to help you with any queries or concerns and will often ask if you have visited us before. They will ask you to sign in and, if this is your first time at the hospice, they will direct you to the place you wish to go.

Receptionist Janet has lovely relationships with visitors and volunteers, “My reception duties in the hospice involve warmly welcoming families and patients as they arrive, ensuring they feel comfortable and cared for from the moment they walk in.

My goal is to create a compassionate and supportive environment, helping families and patients feel at ease during this important time.

It's a key role that helps create a positive first impression and ensures smooth communication within the hospice.”

You will be greeted with a smile no matter where you are within the hospice. Our staff and volunteers understand there are sad moments, but they work tirelessly to ensure patients and those important to them enjoy their time at the hospice and can make special memories.

Whether you are visiting St. Rocco’s for the very first time, visiting a loved one, or for your first volunteering experience, it is normal to feel anxious and apprehensive.

When you think of a hospice, you may expect it to be like visiting a hospital, but that is not true. Our Inpatient Unit is bright and airy with a calming atmosphere and surrounded by our beautiful hospice gardens. Although we provide end of life care, patients access our care for many reasons whether it be as an In Patient or Out Patient including and this is generally provided at our lovely, spacious Vitality Centre through Complementary Therapies, Counselling and Emotional Care or Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.

As an inpatient you will be cared for on our 10 bed In-Patient Unit or as an Outpatient through pre scheduled visits with our Clinical Services Teams.

St. Rocco’s also supports the Warrington community through its Choir who perform regularly for patients or at some of our hospice events, Craft Group who support with making crafts to help fundraise for the hospice, Gardening Club who support in maintaining our beautiful surround hospice gardens, and a weekly We Care Coffee Afternoon for carers along with other community focused events across the year.

“You are always truly wonderful. You looked after my Husband, for the last year of his life and you took such amazingly wonderful care of him. When I was upset, lovely Nurses would take the time to see how I am and sit down and talk to me. You treat patients and their family with respect and such care. I'm forever truly thankful.”

St. Rocco’s is located on Lockton Lane in Bewsey. You can find us off Folly Lane, not far from Bewsey Lodge Primary School. Visitors are encouraged to park within the main car park, outside of our main Hospice reception.

If you are making your visit during the weekend and you find reception to be closed, don’t worry, head towards the side entrance on the right and press the buzzer for a member of staff to let you in.

You may even get a chance to meet our Therapy Dog Ruby, who visits the hospice weekly, along with owner Nadine. Ruby and her owner volunteer to support patients on our In Patient unit, being around animals during challenging times can provide comfort, support, and bring back happy memories when we need it most.

Everyone’s experience will be different, but St. Rocco’s are here to help support where needed.
