St. Rocco’s offers a wide range of emotional support to patients and their families. We can arrange one to one counselling or you can come along to one of our support groups.
We can provide a free and confidential counselling service to adult patients, their families, friends and carers.
The diagnosis of a life-limiting illness or the death of a family member of friend can be devastating, and may bring about stronger emotions than you have previously experienced or expected. For some people counselling can help with inderstanding the complexity of feelings they experience.
Counselling provides a private and confidential space to explore and make sense of thoughts, feelings and experiences without judgement. If you are eligible you will be offered an initial six sessions lasting for fifty minutes each with one of our trained counsellors.
The Listening Ear service is an opportunity to talk in confidence about whatever you are finding most difficult. It is open to patients, adult family members, carers and friends of a patient already known to St. Rocco’s. You will be offered up to six sessions lasting for about forty-five minutes with a member of our Counselling and Emotional Care team.
Mindfulness & Self-Compassion
We offer an introductory programme for patients. This four session programme is designed to help you coope better with the stresses of illness and learn to adopt a gentler, kinder way of taking care of yourself. Carers of patients already known to St. Rocco’s are able to join a separate mindfulness and self-compassion programme created specifically for them.
