Celebrating 40 years of Hospice Care

St. Rocco’s Hospice has been providing compassionate, wrap around care to the Warrington Community for 40 years supporting over 540 patients currently that are living with a palliative diagnosis.

Our Nursing team have been at the heart of the hospice since 1985, providing personalised palliative care to patients and supporting loved ones who need it when they need it more to help make every day count with always seeing the person, not their illness.

"Thank you so much for the loving care and devotion given to my daughter- you made us feel so welcome and made my daughter's last week so peaceful."

The History of St. Rocco's Hospice

The original St. Rocco's opened its doors to the first patient on 7th May 1985 at St. Ann's Vicarage, Orford by Her Grace, the Duchess of Norfolk. The building was a sturdy, three storey Victorian house, which initially, catered for only seven in-patients.  However, over the years it was extended and modified until it could accommodate nine in-patients and five day-patients.

The Hospice was re-located to Bewsey to better serve the needs of the community and the new building was completed in 1998, with the first three patients being welcomed in January 1999.

40 years later, in 2025, we are still here at the heart of the Warrington Community.

Share your story with us

Our wonderful community have been sharing their stories and experiences of St. Rocco's with us over the past 40 years, and we have received some lovely quotes:

"I was the first volunteer when the Hospice opened, and I made the first cup of tea! I loved it from day one."

"We had great support from the nursing staff, allowing me to focus on what I could do for my wife by this time and look to what I could do for our children, and her parents also visiting at that time."

"From what we witnessed as a family, it was such a caring place, and nothing was too much trouble. It most definitely was not a place to be scared of."
