How long have you worked at St. Rocco's?
My journey with St. Rocco's began in 2012 when my dad was a patient here. Witnessing the compassionate and expert care and support he and our family received left a lasting impression on me.
Inspired by this experience, I joined the St. Rocco's team as a Staff Nurse in 2018. In 2022, I was accepted to study to become an Advanced Nurse Practitioner at the hospice through the University of Salford, which I will complete in December 2024.
What do you enjoy most about working in Palliative Care?
Working in palliative care gives me the opportunity to support individuals in managing their life-limiting conditions in a holistic and personalised way, where their priorities and what matters to them are paramount.
Being able to support each individual and those important to them through a very challenging time and provide the compassionate support required makes my job very worthwhile.
What does your role involve?
As a Trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner at St. Rocco's, I am involved in providing comprehensive care to our patients. This includes conducting thorough assessments, managing medications, and collaborating with individuals to develop personalised care plans that honour their goals and priorities. I work closely with a dedicated team within the hospice, as well as with colleagues in the community and hospital settings, to ensure patients receive consistent and well-coordinated support throughout their journey.
In addition to direct patient care, I also provide support and education to our nursing teams, empowering them to deliver the highest quality holistic care. Together, we address the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of our patients, managing symptoms, administering medications, and offering compassionate support to both patients and their families during challenging times.
