Fundraising across generations

Sarah's story

Taking part in a St. Rocco’s Hospice event is a wonderful way to enjoy time with friends and family while making a meaningful difference by supporting patient care. For many, the connection to St. Rocco’s runs even deeper.

Sarah’s connection with St. Rocco’s began in 1988. Her Aunty Jean spent the last few weeks of her life at the Hospice.

Sarah recalled how she would never forget the first time visiting the Hospice and was genuinely surprised as the Hospice was nothing like she ever imagined. It was warm, welcoming, and full of care.

After the passing of Aunty Jean, Sarah began volunteering at the Hospice on Sunday mornings. Her role involved changing water in the flowers and making tea and toast for visitors. These gestures provide comfort to those at the Hospice receiving care and to Sarah, it felt good to give something back.

Fast forward to 2018, Sarah’s connection with the Hospice grew further when her daughter Charlotte, became part of the Fundraising Team as an Events Fundraiser. Through this, Sarah has seen firsthand how much passion and care goes into organising events that help raise vital funds for the Hospice.

This year, Sarah is taking part in something completely new to her, she is participating in the Colour Run with Granddaughter Ella- for a day full of fun, laughter and colour.

“I have never done anything like this before, I am looking forward to getting covered in colour and helping to raise some money for patient care at the Hospice!”

Sarah’s mum will also be volunteering at the event and you too can get involved by volunteering. We are looking for volunteers to help set up the event on the day, marshal, direct, and cheer participants around the 3km course!

There are also roles on the registration desk when participants arrive and sell merchandise, and there might also be the opportunity to throw paint at one of our colour stations!

Thank you to Sarah for sharing her story and taking part in this year’s Colour Run.
