Senior Accountant
St Rocco’s supports people in the Warrington community from the moment they are diagnosed with an illness that is no longer curable. We look after people over the age of 18 years with any kind of life-limiting illness, aiming to be available to our patients and those important to them every step of the way, helping them to make every moment count and to stay as well as possible for as long as possible.
Our Finance Team play a critical role in our organisation, leading our financial planning and management, delivering efficient finance processes, driving value for money and providing excellent management information and analysis.
We're looking for an experienced accountant to join St Rocco’s in the newly created role of Senior Accountant.
Salary: £30,000 FTE (pro-rata) per annum
Contract: Fixed-term contract for 6 months, possibility to extend
Hours: flexibility around hours to be discussed

The Role
The Senior Accountant supports the Finance Manager in delivering accurate management accounts and financial reporting and plays a key part in overseeing the day to day running of the finance department, including people management of the finance team. Supporting the Finance Manager with additional tasks, such as finance projects, the Senior Accountant operates as a collaborative Subject Matter Expert whilst ensuring the team and Hospice is compliant with internal policies and external regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Management Accounts & Reporting
Lead the month-end process to Trial Balance, including journals, accruals, and intercompany transactions.
Produce accurate monthly management accounts and financial analysis for the Hospice and its subsidiaries.
Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and ensure rigorous control of bank and credit card accounts.
Support statutory reporting, VAT returns, Gift Aid claims, and the annual external audit process.
Payroll
Collaborate with People Services to ensure the accurate delivery of monthly payroll via our external bureau.
Manage payroll analysis, journal postings, and the maintenance of the NHS Pension schedule.
People Management
Directly manage and develop the Finance Assistant team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and inclusivity.
Coordinate inductions, conduct performance reviews, and support the professional growth of team members and volunteers.
General
Act as the system champion for the accounting system (Sage 50), driving digitalisation and supporting future system implementations.
Deputise for the Finance Manager and partner with internal/external stakeholders to resolve complex financial queries.
Proactively streamline departmental processes and controls to improve operational efficiency.

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy skills.
Ability to prioritise and manage multiple deadlines, particularly around strict finance timescales.
Excellent communication skills.
Committed to continuous improvement and development.
Qualified / Part Qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA) or equivalent experience (QBE)
Desirable
Experience in Sage 50 and /or other accounting systems.
Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft packages.
Experience in charity retail or social enterprise.
Strong leadership and people management skills.
