Meet Claire Hughes

Why did you decide to support St. Rocco's?

I’ve lived in Warrington all my life and have been proud to serve as an NHS nurse for over 21 years. Early in my training, I had a placement at St. Rocco’s, and it left a lasting impression on me. The compassion, dignity, and dedication shown to patients there deeply influenced the kind of nurse I wanted to become.

Since then, I’ve worked my way up through roles in intensive care, A&E, and now manage an elective enhanced recovery area within Warrington and Halton Hospitals Trust. Throughout my journey,  I’ve seen firsthand the incredible support the hospice provides, not just to patients, but to families too.

It will be an absolute honour to take part in Strictly St. Rocco’s and dance in support of such a meaningful cause.

What is your previous dancing experience and how are you feeling about dancing?

I’ve never had formal dance training, but that hasn’t stopped me from dancing every chance I get! As a child, I Morris danced with pom-poms, and these days, I’m the first one on the dance floor. I’m super excited to learn a brand new style of dancing, so bring on the training, the music, and all the fun that comes with it!

What are you hoping the experience of dancing for St. Rocco’s is going to be like?

I’m hoping this experience will be something truly special, more than just learning to dance, but being part of a journey that brings people together for a powerful cause. That’s why decided to vlog the experience so I can look back on it, to look back on what an achievement it was for everyone involved.  Dancing for St. Rocco’s means celebrating life, lifting spirits, and showing support in the most joyful way possible. I’m excited to challenge myself, grow through the process, do as much fundraising as I can, and be part of something that makes a real difference in people’s lives.
