Meet Gary Cunningham
Why did you decide to support St. Rocco’s?
St. Rocco’s is our town’s Hospice and is there when families are in the most need. I cant think of a better cause to support.
I was looking for a new challenge and ‘bumped’ into a St. Rocco’s employee who shared the successes of the event over the last few years.
I’m no dancer, but if it’s for such a fantastic charity then I’m willing to give it a go!
What is your previous dancing experience and how are you feeling about dancing?
Previous dancing experience is limited to Mr Smiths and Chaplin’s (from the 80’s). I am mildly terrified at the thought of dancing in front of 400 people, but I must practise what I preach! I am a teacher and we constantly tell the kids that they can achieve anything if they put in the hard work, listen to their teacher and practise. The lessons will most definitely be needed and hopefully I won’t embarrass myself, or my partner, too much.
What are you hoping the experience of dancing for St. Rocco’s is going to be like?
I hope I do feel a sense of achievement and being part of a team. It sounds like the group of dancers build up quite a strong team ethos each year and they are there to support each other. I’m hoping its going to be an enjoyable night, with lots of laughs, and everybody remembering why we are there. I’ve never danced in front of an audience before, so this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. ‘Bring it on!’
