Our Green Plan 2025-2028
St. Rocco’s Hospice is working to minimise our reliance on finite resources in all areas of our operations and service delivery. We will comply with all relevant environmental legislation, ensuring that patient care is not adversely impacted, and that we do not inadvertently create barriers for individuals to access our services.
We are committing to the UK Government’s net zero targets to transition to zero by 2050 the carbon emissions we directly control. To achieve this, we will focus on continual improvement in our practice, where practicable and affordable, and have set an evolving list of goals to reduce our environmental impact and our carbon footprint to help protect our planet for future generations. It replaces the old Serious Incident Framework (SIF) and is a significant shift in how we respond to events and share learning.
Our Impact
The direct impact of St. Rocco’s Hospice on the environment primarily relates to:
- Our energy, material and water use on site in our Inpatient Unit, Vitality Centre and offices and travel by employees.
- Our retail operations including environmental performance in relation to energy, material and water usage at our charity shops.
- How we manage our waste and use single-use plastics.
- A sustainable procurement policy to choose more sustainable options where reasonably practical.
St Rocco’s Hospice can also indirectly impact the environment by:
- Helping individuals to reduce their negative environmental impact by providing a positive alternative to landfill and supporting a culture of best practice around waste.
- Advocating a reduce, reuse, recycle approach to products.
- Ethical donation policy for accepting donated products and services.
