Warrington Lions Club President Tony Gandy and fellow Lion member, Carol Kilgannon presented a cheque for £3,500 to St. Rocco’s Hospice on behalf of their members.

Warrington Lions Club was formed in 1968, it is part of the 1.4 million Lions Clubs International members. They bring ‘hands and hearts’ to the communities they serve, helping millions of people every year through developed programs, service resources and funding opportunities. The Lions motto is ‘We Serve’, offering their time and skills to the community.

The money was raised on their annual Christmas Sleigh Appeal and fundraising activities. Christmas is an especially busy time when they bring out the spectacular Santa Sleigh onto the streets of Warrington.

This cheque enabled us to purchase a tilting bed for a room on our 10 bed In Patient Unit from our wish list. Tilting beds benefit a patient who is receiving end of life care as they allow complete control over position and comfort levels. They help aid pain relief treatments, blood circulation and respiratory function, allowing more frequent movement without muscle stiffness. The beds also help ward staff administer daily tasks such as repositioning, feeding, and dressing wounds.

Club President Tony Gandy said, “Without the support of people in the Community, we would be unable to do this, thank you.”

Thank you to Warrington Lions for this generous donation, and the positive difference it will make for the patients in our care here at St. Rocco’s Hospice.

There are other items available to purchase on our wish list, such as scrubs for our IPU staff and comfortable clothing for our patients, visit our wish list to view more.
